About jamie
Originally from Young, NSW, Jamie Winbank is a director, choreographer, creative producer, performer and educator working across musical theatre, contemporary dance and devised performance.
Driven by a belief that performance is a shared experience, his work is characterised by a curiosity for people and their stories. He has led creative projects ranging from intimate one-on-one performances to large-scale productions and dance experiences on indoor and outdoor stages across Australia and internationally.
He is equally passionate about mentoring the next generation of artists, and is committed to creating environments where artists feel safe, supported and creatively empowered to take risks. Whether working with young emerging performers or established professionals, he is consistently focused on unlocking authenticity and encouraging a strong sense of ownership in the work.
Alongside his creative practice, Jamie is a dedicated educator and mentor, regularly working with institutions such as Sydney Dance Company and NIDA, as well as independent training environments across Australia. He is passionate about developing the next generation of artists and fostering inclusive creative spaces where curiosity, experimentation and generosity are valued as much as technical excellence.
Jamie’s practice is recognised for its energy, clarity and theatricality, and for work that consistently places people and collaboration at its core. Whether in the rehearsal room, the studio or on stage, Jamie is driven by a belief that great art is built through curiosity, generosity and creating spaces where artists feel empowered to take creative risks.
